Scott “Scotty” Stoneman
b. August 4, 1932
d. March 4, 1973
Scotty Stoneman is known for his great talents in country and bluegrass fiddle. A member of The Stoneman Family, Kentucky Colonels and the Bluegrass Champs, Scotty shared his love of the fiddle. He was also a five time National fiddling champ which makes it easy to see why he was compared in talent to the likes of Jimi Hendrix on the violin by Peter Rowan. Adding to the comparisons, Scotty was also said to be a “bluegrass Charlie Parker” by no less a figure than Jerry Garcia.
Scotty was one of 23 children born to Ernest (Pop) and Hattie Stoneman. Musical influence in the family was strong and led to many of the children gaining recognition for their abilities. Scotty was no different. He made an impact on the world of country and bluegrass music.
